Different Workout Routines To Be Selected By Men And Women

Men prefer upper body toning

When it comes to workouts, men always prefer going for upper body strengthening. Men have a natural physical advantage in this area too. The muscle compositions help them a lot in this type of a workout. Men also attach a lot aesthetic value to toning their upper body and though a few women can also attain the upper body strength enjoyed by men, it is mostly the men who concentrate on this type of a workout.

Women focus on lower body toning

Unlike men, women mostly select fitness programs that help them to tone their legs and buttocks. One reason for this is definitely aesthetic. But the other reason for this is perhaps the fact that a woman’s pelvis is tilted at an angle slightly different from that of a man. This probably provides women greater benefits from exercises like squats, where women are able to tilt their feet in an outward direction with legs further apart and need not squat as low as the men need to do.

Difference in muscle mass

Women have more body fat than men by constitution. Men, on the other hand, have greater mass of muscles. It is then only natural that men concentrate more on building up muscles further, while women focus on toning their bodies and achieving flexibility.

Difference in flexibility

Women are more flexible than men when it comes to workout. This is because there is a natural difference between the constitution of bone joints of men and women. Along with a more flexible joint type women also display a flexible attitude towards workout. Women are more open to checking out something new, which is different from a run-of-the-mill workout. For example, women often go for a yoga or pilates routine. Pilates is a system by which body strength is increased through coordinated posture and breathing techniques. Workouts like these raises awareness about different body parts, which results in increasing the overall flexibility and fitness of the body.

Benefits of flexibility

When the body muscles support the bone joints and the skeleton correctly, body balance is achieved. Yoga helps in increasing the balance of the body. Improved muscle strength helps to achieve this balance. Again, through the coordinated movements of yoga that muscle strength is also achieved.

Difference in workout approaches

While weight training is the first choice of men, for women it is either yoga or tai chi or pilates. Because, ultimately men prefer the muscular look, while women go for the lean and slim look. Another basic difference in the workout approaches of men and women is that men enjoy sweating while working out, while women do not like it. Some convergence is possible in the workout routines of men and women if, once in a while, they try out each other’s fitness routines.
